“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
-Author Unknown
I jotted ideas on paper, underlining, starring and spelling out ways to put order to my thoughts. What had previously been a white sheet of paper, now held cryptic scribblings of a girl with a dream. I kept brainstorming ways to bring this new idea to life by myself, but none availed. I finally came to the conclusion that I couldn’t do it alone….
and then I realized I wasn’t meant to.
Harrison sat in a corner of our campus coffee shop typing away at his computer. I slowly made my way towards him. Nervousness had suddenly pitted itself in my stomach. I knew Harrison, we were friends! But here I was, a rookie photographer trying to make my BIG dreams come true, and needing another photographer to make that happen.
It was another leap.
But I knew that if I didn’t take it, I’d regret not knowing how it would have turned out.
So I leaped.
I presented my notes to Harrison.
The more I shared, the more excited I became. Harrison too, shared ideas and before we knew it we were bringing to life the FREE fifteen.
The concept was simple. Harrison wanted to produce a video outside of his usual genre. Something that would appeal to a whole different spectrum, and something that would stretch his talents and abilities. I wanted something in which I could showcase my creativity behind my camera in a new way. I also wanted to get as many people involved as possible. I wanted people to see their individual uniqueness and appreciate it.
We set a date for recording and everything began falling into place.
We partnered with three, beautiful ladies. These women were troopers. I couldn’t believe how flexible, and flawless they were during each take. They made working with them effortless, and I’m so thankful for them <3
Aren’t they stunning?
One thing that really ministered to me through this production was the importance of community over competition. See, Harrison himself is a great photographer AND videographer. He loves to make people laugh and capture it and has been doing it creatively since high school!
When Harrison and I partnered together, we put aside any previous unspoken competitiveness and worked together towards a common goal. It was SO fun and so incredible to learn from, encourage and critique each other in ways to be better at what we do. PLUS my “control” tendencies took a vacation, and for that I am soooo thankful.
I think there is something to be learned from that.
