People often ask what my favorite part about The University of Mobile is. Hands down, each and every time my reply is the same: the people.
But that’s just the simple answer. Honestly and truly, it’s so much more than that. It is the willingness and heart of the people who attend this school that captivates me. Their willingness to surrender everything that they are for Christ and his greater purpose– THAT is something to get passionate about.
My first weekend in Mobile was spent with a handful of The University of Mobile’s finest. Eight of us packed ourselves into two cars with countless instruments and drove an hour and a half south to Camp Baldwin. Seven us were musicians and one of us was hired to photograph the weekend. Yep, you guessed it! I was the photographer, and it was SUCH a blessing capturing my friends and watching Christ work in and through them.
Not only that, but it was the first time -as a couple- that Ryan and I got to do ministry together AND we got PAID to do so!
This group had never led worship together before, they had only ever practiced as a group a handful of times. Yet, in spite of that, Christ did what he is all to famous for. He made his name famous through the mouths of his children. His love and his light was shown in and through their example. They longed to glorify him in song and to lead a group of over 300 students into his presence. They laid everything that they had before his feet and excitedly expected him to take over….
and he did.
There is no glory in promotion of self, only the proclamation of something far greater- Jesus Christ.
That is why I love my school…..They get that.
