Far off in the country-side of southern Alabama lives a man not much unlike the rest….
Denver Hawsey is a dreamer. A man who puts his heart in places that far surpass the comfortable and secure. It is in those places that he is most alive, most purposed, and most captivated.
His grandfather was a dairy farmer, not much unlike other’s that had come from his time. His father had been the county sheriff, doubling as their church’s music minister and youth pastor all at the same time. Music had found itself in the corners of everything Denver had ever known. It was in his small town that Denver became his high school’s quarterback & shortstop, fell in love with a guitar strapped to his front and it was there that he graduated.
Having a love for trying new things, Denver left his home in southern Alabama to go to college and pursue a career soon after he graduated high school. He left his grandfather’s dairy farm and his father’s role as the county sheriff in the back of his mind as reminders of from where he came.
Pursing a career as an accountant was everyone else’s idea of sucess. Get a good job, start a family young…. That was what he had always been taught and what he had always thought he wanted.
Until….
Denver doesn’t remember exactly when it happened. Some time in between putting his heart in places that reached far past his own hands and trusting his guitar with expressing the secrets of it did he realize there was something more. There was something more to life, to love, and to living than he ever thought possible.
It was then that Denver let go of what he had always known, to grasp what he always had hoped for.
People said he couldn’t do it. That pursing a career as a restless music writer would end in failure.
And they were right…
Almost.
See Denver has failed. Time and time again he has learned what it means to reach the end of everything you’ve ever known. But it is in those places that Denver had realized that everything he has ever known is only a glimpse of what is.
See, failure isn’t a bad thing, unless you let it be. Failure is a road sign on the streets of life that simply says “wrong way”. We shouldn’t allow every “wrong way” road sign to dictate the quality of our journey, just the direction of it. That is what Denver has learned to do.
As I type this Denver is in a studio, recording. He is thrilled to have come to the place where he is most surely certain is where he is supposed to be. It has taken many “wrong way” road signs, but he is here.
In the Fall, Denver will launch his recorded CD titled “Drifter”- the recorded writings of a restless soul.
Here is his CD’s teaser 🙂 :

And remember- See, failure isn’t a bad thing, unless you let it be.

Denver is a delightful young man that I have had the good luck to work with for several summers, he is so full of life and always has something funny to say. I pray that his plans for his future turn out the way he wants them too. As long as he puts God first in his life he will prosper. Love you (den den)

Denver is an incredible young man ~ familiar. He is going to fail forward and I am going to pray for him whenever I see or hear “penut butter.” Sounds silly ~ only if you don’t know the power of prayer.
