Eufaula, Alabama | A Couple’s Shower in David’s Hometown
One of the greatest gifts about being engaged, is watching people come together because of your marriage. I think that’s one of the things I am looking forward to most about our wedding day: people coming together. It’s one of those things I get teary about when I think of it. People from all stages of my life, meeting each other, celebrating and reminiscing about how they know you, how they love you, and the next season of life you’re entering in to. It’s absolutely beautiful.
David led my sister, mom and I towards a gorgeous white building in the center of the town he called home, Eufaula. We followed closely behind him and snapped a few photos. Then, we entered into the fellowship hall of the church where he grew up. David’s church, First Baptist Eufaula , dated back to the 1800’s and I couldn’t help but think about the history that had been formed and cultivated here.
My mind wondered if little five year old David would have played hide and go seek around the church grounds. Or, if he had been one of the kids to be corrected time and time again for running in the church building itself. I imagined a rambunctious young boy growing up here within these walls, and a church that loved him deeply for it. He had spent so much of his life in this church, with these people. He was sharpened and grown here, loved here, and became the man that I fell in love with because of the people here.
Upon entering the fellowship hall, we were instantly greeted with southern smiles, hugs and warm greetings. The room was filled with beautiful decor, celebrating David and I and our engagement. Baby’s breath and sweet gold and white details filled the room. David introduced us to the guests of the Couple’s Shower. I love that in the deep South, hugs are preferred over handshakes, and little old ladies kiss your cheeks upon meeting you.
The four of us met and mingled with the guests in attendance and ate heaping servings of barbecue until our bellies were stuffed. David’s momma and mine chatted and bonded, while David and I made our way from table to table, greeting guests. David introduced me to members of his Church, and we laughed as memories were shared about him and his childhood. It was the sweetest time.
When it came time to open gifts, were were incredibly amazed and oh so blessed. We were showered and showered with thoughtful things for our future home. Both David and I were in awe and abundantly grateful. My sweet momma snapped a few images of us opening gifts on her phone. I’ve gotta say, I can be quite expressive! One of my favorite moments from the shower is pictured below. When we were registering for items, David wandered over to the coffee aisle and asked me if he could “shoot” an espresso maker with our registry gun. I laughed and told him he absolutely could. Well, he was gifted that very espresso maker at this shower! His reaction was priceless! Unfortunately, we didn’t get it on camera- but my reaction to his reaction was caught… hahaha
Mrs. Barbara (in the red blouse) was such a trooper. She saved all of our ribbons for my bouquet at our rehearsal dinner, and celebrated with us as we opened each gift 🙂
I can’t even being to describe how grateful I am for our Couple’s Shower in Eufaula. It was such a delight to meet the people that have loved my David so well over the years.
Our Couple’s Shower in Eufaula was such a blessing. The photo above is such a blessing too. All it’s missing is my daddy and my future sister, Jessica <3. I can’t believe that in two months our two families will become ONE!
