My view from the plane window… Yes, it’s the Swedish Alps… my God is an amazing creator.
Fuge has drawn to a close…. It’s so hard to believe that eight weeks have slipped by so quickly. My writings and ramblings about my summer in Charleston have not done it justice by any means. Christ has done so much in and through everyone I encountered while serving there. It was such an amazing adventure and each week brought new, unexpected treasures. I got to watch Christ grow and change his children. I was used and stretched in more ways than I thought possible… and I was blessed, oh I was blessed, abundantly. Though the chapters of my MFUGE adventures have ended, new chapters and adventures are being written even as I type this.
I left Charleston Saturday July 21st around 10:30pm, determined to get home as quickly as possible. I said my goodbyes to my FUGE family, hugged them tightly, and then drove 6 hours to my home sweet home in Virginia. It was 4:35am when I pulled into my driveway, and as soon as I opened the garage door, there my parents stood. Their arms were open and their eyes squinted at me, obviously revealing they had only woken up moments before. We embraced tightly, and spent time catching up before exhaustion forced me to fall asleep.
The next day I awoke to my sister snuggled up beside me. One arm stretched across me, while her other stretched out above her, allowing a pillow for her head. Sleep heavied my eye lids once more, and I awoke some time later, knowing I was the only one in the house. While the rest of the family was at church I unpacked my things and then began repacking them. I quickly picked out my favorite outfits, did laundry, shuffled through toiletries, and charged my camera battery.
Lunchtime drew near and I met my family at our favorite Mexican restaurant. The day continued in laughter and memories made as the four of us enjoyed each other’s company and caught up on the last two months of our lives… there is absolutely nothing better than spending time with my family… nothing better.
We made our way back home where the packing continued. I took a break and met a friend at a frozen yogurt Shoppe, catching each other up on what God was doing in each of our hearts. I made my way back home, finished up packing, tied some loose ends up, Skyped a friend to whom has my heart, and then crawled under my covers. Sleep came all to easily and didn’t stay long enough. I awoke the next day knowing that the day held in its grasp a beautiful gift from my Savior….
Today, an adventure called my name.
Today, I was going to fly over the Atlantic Ocean.
Today, I was going to Italy.
And now here I am. Thirty minutes away from finishing my eight-hour flight, typing these words and meditating on the fact that I am the most blessed girl I know. These next two weeks will be spent in splendor as I serve and do missions work in a country I’ve only ever dreamed about visiting. They will be spent glorifying the one who made my dream come true…. The one and only, Jesus Christ.
I’m here to make Him famous.
