The best love stories are the ones that come together unexpectedly. The love that starts with an uncertain excited anticipation, and slowly fade into “It all makes sense”.
That’s what you find with you look at Karen & Aaron. They are two people who have trusted the Lord and his timing, and without avail, God has written the most unique and beautiful story.
It all started on one of Karens favorite places to be… the stage!
Karen had just finished playing Mary Magdalene in an Easter production. While backstage she overheard Aaron talking about his adopted Asian sisters. She didn’t know who he was, but HAD to get to know him and talk to him about his sisters.
When Karen was in second grade the Lord confirmed to her that one day she would adopt a little girl from China and since that day, she has had a huge passion for adoptions and especially ones from China. So, they were introduced and a new friendship began.
Time passed and a short while later, Aaron came to see Karen in The Phantom of the Opera. After the show, Aaron walked straight up to her and confidently said, “Karen, I just need you to know that when you walked out on that stage and began to sing, the Lord told me I was going to marry you.”
Slightly embarrassed and thrown off guard, Karen made light of the situation by responding, “I’ll believe it when I see a ring.”
Two days later she walked out of choir and there was Aaron, down on one knee in the hallway holding a ring pop.
An interest was suddenly sparked, but neither of them invested in the possibility of what could come of it.
The summer passed in a wonderful whirlwind and as the fall semester started Karen & Aaron found themselves in similar social circles. One night, after worship, Aaron approached Karen and asked her to go on a walk with him. The night unfolded beautifully and over the course of only a few weeks each had shared their stories and struggles with the other. Trust found itself hidden in places that it hadn’t been found with anyone else.
They both knew that something was happening, something different, but they wanted it to be the Lord’s will, not their own. They wanted to keep Christ at the center of who they were individually and what they could be together, so they agreed to fast and pray for 30 days. Communication was limited to only letters and face to face conversation.
Before they knew it, they were falling not only more in love with each other, but more in love with Christ than ever before. You see, Karen had never dated anyone and had made a promise to herself and to the Lord that she wouldn’t until he revealed to whom she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with.
After the fast, God called them to continually wait on Him.
Neither of them knew specifically why, but they knew the Lord was going to use the wait to continue to mold them and show that his timing was what they wanted. Their trust in Christ bloomed into him encouraging them to pursue each other… and they’ve been together ever since.
“The reason we want our story told has nothing to do with us. We are simply humble vessels that the Lord has chosen to use to glorify His name and to reflect the love He has for His children. We desire with all our hearts to reflect that love to one another and to every one we encounter. Our friends, our families, our teachers, our acquaintances. We never want our story to be about us. Because ultimately, it is God’s story and not ours. And every day He continues to meet us and teach use and use us in ways we could never imagine. He truly is the God of Ephesians 3: 20, 21.”
