I started high school absolutely smitten. Yes, it was young love, and it didn’t last as long as I planned for it to. But through that relationship I met the beautiful Meagan Abell. I remember the evening we met so vividly. We were at a church event with those huge blow up bouncy play things and a carnival type atmosphere. Meagan and I were strangers waiting in line to get hotdogs when she struck up a conversation with me. We spent the rest of the night laughing, stuffing our faces and taking turns sliding down the huge bouncy slide.
We went from strangers to friends in a matter of minutes, so it’s no surprise that our friendship still remains strong years later. She’s one of those people who doesn’t color inside the lines, she creates the lines. She’s an artist. Creativity seeps from her fingertips in beautiful, unique & inspiring ways.
Her passion for creating extends through her camera, and it goes without saying that she’s incredible. She’s always been attracted to the art of capturing memories and freezing them the ways she sees them. She fell head over heels in love with the art of photography in high school when she had to borrow her mom’s old Minolta analog film camera for her Black and White class. Ever since then, a camera has always been attached to her in some way.
When I decided photography was something I wanted to pursue more adamantly, Meagan was the first to know. She welcomed me into the world of photogs and instantly gave me pointers, tips, advice & encouragement. She even sold me my first lens. I am so blessed by this girl.
This little shoot was taken in a small country corner of my favorite place in the world, my hometown.
Isn’t she fierce? I love the contrast of color!
and of course I had to add a lil “Q &A” –Filly style 🙂
A: Whats your favorite color?
M: Yellow by far. It’s just the epitome of my personality! Bubbly, energetic, happy, and ridiculously bright. It’s how I hope to make others feel when they’re around me
A: Favorite snack?
M: Salt and Vinegar Pringles are my secret guilty pleasure. I seriously could sit and eat them by the hundreds if you let me!
A: How did you meet Jesus?
M: I grew up in an awesome church surrounded by some incredible people. Plus my family, especially my grandparents, definitely influenced my relationship with God. I began my relationship officially in the fourth grade with my baptism, but I think I really became intimate with Him in middle school when I went to my first M-Fuge. There was a college band there called “My Isaac” and to this day when I listen to their music I can feel Jesus in every single note. Between their music, the people I met, the work that we did, and just everything that was placed on my heart then, I really let God fully into my life.
A: One secret you don’t mind sharing?
M: I am TERRIFIED of open water. If I cannot see the bottom I have a panic attack and will probably start crying. Plus, after I discovered the show River Monsters, it pretty much guarantees that I will never swim in the James or the ocean ever again. I also have mild claustrophobia, so in certain situations I kind of freak out and have trouble breathing. Thankfully, though, I’ve been able to manage that a bit better than my fear of large bodies of water!
