Life is full of gifts, and one of those gifts is time. Time is precious, it’s quick and it waits for no man. Before you know it, time leaves you older, wiser, living more life and nothing is as precious to you as the person who stood by your side as time passed by.
For Joan, that person is Norm and vise versa. Fifty years ago Norm & Joan stood at the altar of an episcopal church, promising to love each other in sickness & in health for as long as they both lived… and they have.
Their story starts years before their promise to each other, when Joan was fourteen & Norm was twenty. Joan’s good friend was Norm’s younger sister and the two did most everything together. One day, Norm was home from college, washing his car in the driveway. Joan made her way over to visit her friend when she stopped in her tracks- she had never known her friend’s brother to be so handsome. Norm smiled at her and invited her inside. Joan’s cheeks turned pink as she thanked him. Before they knew it, they were getting to know each other.
Joan recalled the story over 50 years later, with a glass of champagne in hand. She and Norm had invited a small number of their closest friends to join them at small & and elegant dinner at the historic, Erin Hill of Powhatan, Virginia, to celebrate their long and beautiful marriage.
Guests were gifted with stories full of love, laughter & memories from the couple. Glasses of champagne, and trays of h’orderves were also serves before a timeless dinner of chicken cordon blue with seasoned potatoes & honey almond green beans with cupcakes for dessert.
Throughout the night, Joan & Norm stole many glances at each other, eyes sparkling, fully alive. It was a blessing to watch.
Heres to many more years, Norm & Joan! Your love for each other is a beautiful reminder that true love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, & always perseveres.
