Over these last two years I’ve moved a lot. Okay, maybe not a lot… But I have moved out of my parents home, into a dorm, out of a dorm, into an apartment, and now, out of an apartment and into a *new* home! Transitions always excite me. At first, it’s always kind of hard coming “home” to a new space. But, thankfully, I’ve learned what’s essential in making any space a homey space. Now, don’t get me wrong, home will always be where my family is. But, for now, I’m happy to say my home away from home suits me quite well. Especially since the family I’m currently living with happens to be that of my very best friend! They allowed me to move in this season and it has been the ultimate blessing. I’m sharing this space with y’all today because this is also my work space! Countless photos have been edited, emails sent, and business decisions have been made here already- and I’ve only lived here a month! For me, turning any space into a homey space needs a few essential things- and today, I’m sharing them with you!
1. Surround yourself with things that matter: I’m purpose driven, so therefore I LOVE it when what I own serves a purpose in my life or in my heart. I don’t like to just accumulate “cute things”. Instead, I have things that mean something to me. These framed watercolors below are from my first missions trip ever to Germany when I was 16. I have waited years to display them and these frames from Hobby Lobby do an excellent job!
!2. Something that needs your attention: If you’re an avid reader of the blog- you I’m absolutely smitten by fresh cut flowers. There is just something so welcoming about coming home to something living- whether it’s a pet or a plant! Until I have ample room for a window garden, or can afford a puppy, fresh cut flowers serve me well. They need water and sunlight, and I need those gorgeous white buds to never wilt! I love ’em! 3. Things that Inspire you: I can’t tell you how important this one is. Whether you’re a creative minded person or not, we all crave things that inspire us. This map does that for me. Paired with the hand painted scripture on these walls I absolutely LOVE coming home and knowing that there is so much more out there in the world than just my own agenda. This map lets me dream big dreams about traveling, meeting new people, learning Italian fluently, and enjoying my morning coffee in a Parisian Cafe one day. 4. Something that Smells like Home: When I go home to Virginia each Fall, my momma has pumpkin and cinnamon candles burning as soon as I walk in the door. With a a single deep breath, I know I’m home! I LOVE things that smell good. My nose never lets me down. Coming home to a space that smells like home is the BEST. I’m currently burning “Cashmere” by Better Homes and Gardens in my Scentsy.5. A Place Where Life Can be Displayed: I am so visual. I need to see things in order to make them happen- whether thats in my head, or openly displayed on my wall! When I come home, I like to know what needs to get done for the day and what doesn’t. This wall helps me organize my bills, business, and social life in countless ways. And that sweet scripture reminds me that stress and worry don’t dictate what I do- GOD does!
Finally- you’re probably wondering who this little guy is! This is Gilbert, my sweet friend’s little kitten. He has made his new home on top of this whicker basket and sleeps there for hours. I guess he likes my new home too!
