It’s VALENTINES DAY! ahhh I love this day. So red. SO pink. So PERFECT! I’ve never been a “girly girl” but I make an exception on this day every year. I know I’ve already blogged once today, but today is definitely one of my most favorite and here’s WHY!
Adorable handmade Valentines. When I was younger Superbowl Sunday didn’t have anything to do with football. It was the day that my mom, sister and I would get out the glitter and scrapbook paper, steal some food from the Superbowl party my dad had downstairs, go into in my mom’s room, throw our pjs on and make handmade valentines while watching chick flicks (man that was a long run-on sentence!). We still do that to this day! Though, not during the game 🙂 We’ve come to appreciate it as we’ve gotten older.
Sweets treats. oh my gah. I LOVE coming up with new yummy treats each Vday. I love baking, and valentines day is the perfect excuse to bake & share the love.
Fresh flowers. I have always been a girl who LOVES fresh flowers. They brighten up any room, and are so delightful (yes, I said it)! How can you NOT love them? Every year my dad gets me a unique bouquet. He knows my favorites are tulips, but he also knows that I love new/different things, so each year I get a surprise arrangement.
I’m a hopeless romantic. I seriously mean hopeless. I sometimes narrate my love life and take simple things like going to the grocery store & taking the dog for a walk, and turn them into a sappy romantic comedy’s in my head. They usually feature Ryan Gosling as the male lead. Just sayin’.
Chocoholic. That word. oh my. It’s beautiful. It’s when chocolate meets addiction. I’ve been a closet chocolholic for years, and on Valentines Day, I embrace my addiction and high-five it because it’s so awesome.
Simple sentiments. It started years ago, when dad worked three jobs and mom’s job was to care of us kids. We didn’t have much, but we had each other (so corny, i know :). Daddy (unbeknownst to us) would save a few dollars here and there and every holiday he would get my mom, sister and I something small. New Years, Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s day. Every little gift was accompanied by a handwritten note, and in my opinion, THAT was better than the gift. Dad’s tradition soon became a family one, and now we all do little things each holiday for each other, and they’re always paired with a handwritten note. It’s the little things.
My Valentine. Last year, I felt really compelled to try something new. I decided to write Jesus a valentine. I spent over an hour writing out how great my love was for Him. I told him how thankful I was and how excited I was to be His. I did it again this year, and will continue to do it for years to come.
All in all, I don’t think it’s wise to base your happiness on if you have a Valentine or not. I don’t, because that’s not the point. The point is to celebrate love, in all it’s forms. Love for friends, family, and in the everyday moments that make life so vibrant!
What are your favorite things about today? Least favorite? I hope no matter where you are, or what you’re doing, you realize just how loved you truly are!
xoxo
