This blog post is an unusual one… mainly because it is filled with UBBERS amount of sneak peeks in it… They don’t line up with the words of the post, I just wanted to share some incredible people with you… 😉
It’s Saturday.
I’m curled up into the corner of my couch, coffee cupped in one hand and Dave Barnes serenading me as I type.
The semester is over.
Time has literally FLOWN by. It just seems like yesterday that I was blogging about being the “New Girl” at The University of Mobile… now, four months later, I’m home.
I’m home!
So many people ask me if Virginia is different than Mobile– and I have to chuckle, because it is…. but it’s not…. but then…. it REALLY is.
For example….
The weather… oh the weather…. In Virginia it can be 75 degrees one day, and then 50 degrees the next. Sunny one day, and rainy the next. But in Mobile, it’s 55 degrees, then 75 degrees, sunny then rainy, ALL IN THE SAME DAY. I finally gave up checking the weather, and got used to wearing my rain boots as consistantly as deodorant.
Sweet tea isn’t sweet tea. It’s syrup.
Hair teasing is like breathing for southern girls- they are born knowing how to do it. I’m pretty sure they’re given a teasing comb at birth. They LOVE big hair. I tried to tease my hair a few times… I gave up when my comb got knotted in my long brown hair and finally excepted that teasing and I weren’t compatible.
Armadillos don’t exist in Virginia. I’m pretty sure they are things of legend actually (like unicorns…only less fluffy). But down south, Mobile, Alabama specifically, they’re roadkill. I saw SO many in real life… well… real death actually, since every one I saw was dead… but still– THEY EXIST.
Ants attack feet. I’m not joking. Ant hills are EVERYWHERE in Mobile. I can’t tell you how many photo shoots I’ve been on, where I accidently stepped on one and the ants took their revenge.
It might just be at The University of Mobile, but everyone is musical… and has a CD out, or is working on it.
Humidity is the invisible hair hater of the south. In the beginning did my hair (shampoo, condition, blow dry, straighten, braid, pin up) a few times to attempt to look cute… then began to realize it was useless. As soon as I walked outside humidity attacked and I looked like a permed poodle.
Southern hospitality really is hospitably southern. It’s so stinkin’ heart warming. Everyone’s mother reminds me of Paula Dean.
I love Mobile, and I honestly wouldn’t want to spend my time at school anywhere else….
Here’s a little recap of my Spring 2013 Semester:
- Started AnnaFilly Photography
- Launched “The FREE Fifteen”
- Worked 30+ hours a week & took 18 credit hours
- Learned the importance of “date night” when dating a handsome fellow like mine
- I went to Disney Land for the FIRST TIME EVER.
- Led an 8th grade girl’s community group (LOVED IT)
- Booked my first wedding as a photographer (OH YEAHHHH)
- Got a French Press… & then got obsessed with it
- I met Dave Barnes– oh holy goodness.
- Fell MORE in love with discipleship (if that’s even possible)
- Became british because of the large amounts of tea I would consume with the lovely ladies who would come to my room & spend hours of conversation with me
This summer I *hope* to…
- Read ONE good book the whole way through (I usually get bored and stop halfway through it… any book suggestions?)
- Start a secret writing project I’ve had on my mind 😉
- Go on a road trip
- Ace my online summer classes
- Get new business cards
- Photograph more concept/styled shoots
- Slow down
- Love deeper
- Start/update/change a website/blog/thing
- Start an herb garden (preferably a portable one… is that possible? It’s gotta be, right?)
Thankful for you all, you’re encouragement, support, and love have been such a gift. Thanks for reading the ramblings of my heart.
